Plot
In 2003, Armed Reserve police constable Kathiravan is part of an escort team transporting criminals in Vellore. After surviving a violent attack during a prisoner transfer, he is later assigned to escort Abdul Rauf, a prisoner being taken from Vellore Central Jail to Tiruchirappalli Court. During the journey, Abdul shares his tragic past, which forms the core of the story.
Abdul recalls his life in 1997 as a small shopkeeper in Sivaganga who also ran a local theater. His troubles begin when local rowdy Pandi demands that he screen obscene films. Abdul refuses, leading to conflict, especially after Pandi attacks his wife and Kalaiyarasi, the woman Abdul loves. Violence escalates between their families, and after a brutal confrontation, Pandi dies from injuries caused by Abdul. Overcome with guilt, Abdul surrenders to the police and is imprisoned, while his mother later passes away.
In the present, Abdul briefly escapes during transit but voluntarily returns, earning the respect of the officers. Kathiravan learns that Abdul’s true wish is to marry Kalai at the court. When they finally reunite, the judge promises to review the case fairly, giving hope to the couple.
However, during the next hearing, events take a tragic turn. A change of judge and procedural complications lead to chaos, and Abdul escapes in desperation. Kalai arrives at the court but is hit by a speeding bus, leaving Abdul and Kathiravan devastated.
Years later, it is revealed that the entire incident is a case study narrated by Kathiravan to police trainees. He explains that Kalai actually survived the accident, and with the help of Kathiravan and his wife Mary, Abdul’s case was reopened and he was released. Abdul and Kalai eventually marry and begin a new life. Kathiravan ends the story by stressing the importance of justice, equality, and unbiased policing beyond caste or religion.
