Soubin Shahir (born 12 October 1983) is an Indian actor, director and producer who mainly works in Malayalam cinema. He made his acting debut with Annayum Rasoolum (2013) and gained major recognition after Premam (2015).
He later played the lead role in Sudani from Nigeria (2018), which earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. Early Life
Soubin Shahir was born and brought up in Fort Kochi, Kerala, India. He grew up in a family connected to cinema and has a brother and a sister. His father, Babu Shahir, worked in the film industry as an assistant director and production controller, contributing to well-known Malayalam films such as Manichithrathazhu, Godfather, and In Harihar Nagar.
Career
Soubin Shahir began his journey in cinema as an assistant director, working on Kaiyethum Doorath (2002), where he also appeared briefly as an actor. He later assisted on Chronic Bachelor (2003) and worked with several noted filmmakers including Rafi-Mecartin, P. Sukumar, Santhosh Sivan, Rajeev Ravi and Amal Neerad.
His major acting breakthrough came with Premam (2015), where his role as a PT teacher made him widely popular. After that, he delivered memorable performances in films such as Charlie, Maheshinte Prathikaaram, Kali, Kammatipaadam, Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, Mayanadhi, CIA and Kumbalangi Nights.
He played his first full lead role in Sudani from Nigeria (2018), winning the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. In 2024, he acted in and produced Manjummel Boys, which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film and the first in the industry to cross ₹200 crore worldwide.
Soubin is also a partner in the production banner Parava Films, backing successful projects including Manjummel Boys. In 2025, he appeared in Tamil cinema with Coolie, where his performance — especially in the song “Monica” — was well received.
